The Stetson University Jazz Ensemble swings back into action at the Athens Theatre for its Fall 2019 concert series with two performances that highlight selections spanning the full spectrum of jazz. Music from many of the greatest musicians / composers in American jazz history are represented, including Billy May, Count Basie, Quincy Jones, Urbie Green, Benny Goodman, George Gershwin, and Lester Young, just to name a few.

With the jazz ensemble’s upcoming tour to New Orleans in January 2020, these performances will also feature works that explore the New Orleans jazz traditions, including a recreation of Duke Ellington’s little-known 1932 version of “Sheik of Araby,” as well as the classic “Portrait of Louis Armstrong” from his 1971 Grammy-winning album, New Orleans Suite
