Athens Youth Theater Academy

 

Come join us in the Athens Youth Academy!  Acting camps that challenge serious actors and welcome all beginners.

Imagine the perfect Summer acting camp: dazzling shows, great directors and teachers, and a place that makes me feel  welcome!

 

June 4-8 "Moana"  
Rising 1st Grade Students thru 3rd grade | 9am-2pm | $ 195
 If the ocean is calling, then this is the right camp for you! Help Moana restore the heart to her island while learning her music from this new Disney classic and perfecting the skills that make her so brave.

June 4-8 "Jedi Training"   
Rising 2nd Grade Students thru 5th Grade |9am-2pm| $195

Is the force with you, or are you bound to join the dark side? In this acting camp students will use the classic Star Wars stories as their inspiration to tell their own galactic tale.

                                                                                                        
June 11-15 "Dr. Seuss"  
Rising 2nd Grade Students thru 5th grade | 9am-2pm |  $195

This summer, our Youth Theatre gets turned upside down as we enter the wacky and wonderful world of Dr. Seuss. Our themes will consist of: Learning about diversity, the environment, and other Theatre values through the works of Dr. Seuss. Campers and teaching artists alike will travel through Dr. Seuss stories and discover how the experiences of many characters teach important life lessons and values thru use of acting, singing, dancing, and of course… the stage!


June 11-15 + 18-22 (2 weeks) Production Camp "Little Mermaid Jr."
Rising 2nd Grade Students thru 8th Grade | 9am-3pm | $350
In this two week camp, students will have a script to memorize in addition to dances & music from the hit Disney classic. The first day of camp will consist of auditions so that the students can be assigned roles to play in the show. There is no need to learn a song ahead of time-children will be taught a portion of a song to sing & will do readings from the script. At the end of the two week camp the students will perform this show on the Athens stage.

June 18-22 " Hamilton"
Rising 8th Grade Students thru 12th Grade | 9am-2pm | $195

This show has won numerous Tony awards & continues to be a sell out on Broadway. Kids will learn and perform select songs from this musical & may even learn a little history in the process too.

June 25-29 "The Works of Ronald Dahl"
Rising 3th Grade thru 6th Grade | 9am-2pm | $195

he classic books & movies have been turned into musicals! Music from the hit broadway musicals such as “Matilda”, “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory” and “James and The Giant Peach” will be performed along with dancing & character development.

June 25-29 "Tangled"  
Rising Kindergarten Students thru 2nd Grade | 9am-1pm | $150
Everyone has a dream! Come share yours, as we explore the music from the hit Disney movie & learn what it took for Rapunzel & Flynn to achieve their dreams.

July 2-6  (4th. off)  "The Greatest Showman"  
Rising 6th Grade Students thru 12th Grade| 9am-3pm | $225
This is the greatest show! In the circus there are all different types of talents to be shared along side a hit new score. Kids will create their own circus as they perform songs from this exciting movie.

July 2 -6  (4th off) "The Incredibles"
Rising 2nd Grade Students thru 5th Grade | 9am-2pm | $195
Everyone has a super power, what’s yours? In this acting camp, the Incredible family will serve as a role model for kids to create their very own superhero & save the world from evil!

July 9-13 "The Music of Alan Menken"
Rising 3rd Grade Students thru 7th Grade| 9am-3pm | $195

Take a journey thru the shows that Alan Menken has written. Kids will have a chance to recreate some of their favorite songs from the hit musicals such as Anastasia, Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, and so much more!


July 9-13 "Trolls"
Rising Kindergarten Students thru 2nd Grade  | 9am-1pm | $195
Poppy & Branch are brightening up the party in this camp! Kids will have a chance to create their own Troll personality and perform some songs from this rockin movie!

July 9-13 + 16-20  (2 weeks) Design and Tech Academy
Rising 8th Grade Students thru 12th Grade | 9am-3pm | $195 each week
In this Optional 1 week or 2 week camp, times will be split between learning about scenic, costuming, and lighting design & technology. If you child has been curious about life behind the stage, then this is the camp for them. Week 1 is July 9-13 and Week 2 is July 16-20.  You must sign up for both weeks if you intend to register for both weeks


July 16-20 Middle School Intensive
Rising 6th Grade Students thru 8th Grade | 9am-3pm | $225
The acting bug has bitten you & you want to know more! This camp is geared towards younger kids who are interested in becoming more serious in the performing world. We will cover audition techniques, monologue choices, & how to give a convincing song performance

July 16-20 "Paw Patrol"
Rising Kindergarten Students thru 2nd Grade | 9am-2pm | $195
Scout, Marshall & Skye will be our leaders as we learn about what it means to be a brave puppy. In this acting camp kids will create their own puppy personalities while learning how to be a brave citizen


July 23-27 "Coco"
Rising Kindergarten Students thru 3rd Grade | 9am-2pm | $195
Kids will learn the exciting music from the latest Disney/Pixar film. Family and tradition are an important part of our journey in this camp.

July 23-27 "Carrying the Banner"
Rising 3rd Grade Students thru 7th Grade | 9am-2pm | $195
Open the gates & seize the day! The classic movie, NEWSIES has been turned into a musical with old favorites and new exciting songs added to the score. Kids will perform high energy music & dancing that will have them pumped to become a newsie!

July 30 - August 3   Broadway Hits Dance Camp
Rising 2nd Grade Students thru 6th Grade | 9am-2pm | $195

There are so many musicals out there that have crazy dance numbers that often make a musical special. Kids will learn prestigious dance routines to some of Broadway’s favorite shows.

July 30-Aug 3  High School Intensive
Rising 9th Grade Students thru 12th Grade | 9am-3pm | $225

If you are thinking about going to college to study theater or preparing to audition for upcoming shows, then this camp will be a huge benefit for you! Focusing on singing, acting, and dancing, as well as helpful advice shared for auditioning, this camp is geared to help students set themselves up for success!

July 30 - Aug 3 + Aug 6 - 10 (2 Weeks) Production Camp "Throughly Modern Millie, Jr."
Rising 3rd Grade Students thru 8th Grade | 9am-3pm | $350
In this camp, students will have a script to memorize in addition to dances & music from the Tony award winning musical. The first day of camp will consist of auditions so that the students can be assigned roles to play in the show. There is no need to learn a song ahead of time-children will be taught a portion of a song to sing & will do readings from the script. At the end of the two week camp the students will perform this show on the Athens stage. This show tells the story of Millie Dilmount and her journey to become a “modern woman” in the 1920s. Along away there is love, deception from one hilarious villain, & the dream to become who you want to be.

August 6-10 "Wizarding World of Harry Potter"
Rising 2nd Grade Students thru 5th Grade | 9am-2pm | $195
Ever wonder what house you would belong to in the Wizarding World? Not only will students discover the talents that make them special, but they will learn ways to bring magic to life!

 

 

Morning Care and After Care

The Athens now offers morning & after care to help you facilitate your day!

Morning Care: 7:30am – 9am | $35 per week
After Care (A): 2pm – 5:30pm | $70 per week
After Care (B): 3pm – 5:30pm | $50 per week

Combo Care (Morning and After Care):
7:30am – 9am and 2pm – 5:30pm | $90 per week

*Combo Care (B):
7:30am – 9am and 3pm – 5:30pm | $75 per week

*After Care (B) is for Production Camp Students only.

Morning and After Care include age-appropriate arts and crafts, movies, and games. After Care includes outside play; there are no off-site trips. Morning and After Care are not extensions of the theatre camp, though are still engaging and enjoyable for all students. Tuition is charged for the week, not the day. Pro-rating is not available. Students in After Care should bring a snack.

 

REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICY

All refunds for withdrawals incur a $25 administrative fee per camp.

·         All withdrawal requests must be sent in writing to education@athensdeland.com.

·         If a child withdraws from a camp or class before the first day of camp or class, the registration cost is refunded less the $25 administrative fee.

·         If a child withdraws from a camp or class at any time on or after the first day of the program no refunds are given. The exception is for a medical reason, which requires a physician’s note. In the event of withdrawal due to a medical issue, the registration fee is prorated, the unused portion is refunded, and the administrative fee is waived.

The Athens Theatre reserves the right to alter or cancel scheduled programs as necessary. If a program is cancelled, a full refund of the cancelled program’s tuition is issued

Commonly Asked Questions:

·         Q:  Will instructors have security clearance?

A:  Yes!   All instructors have background checks.  They have been cleared and are wonderful teachers! 

·         Q:  Will my child be supervised at all times during the camps, including supervision to and from restrooms, breaks, lunch, etc...?

A:  Yes!  The highest precautions for safety at all times and students will be closely supervised. 

·         Q:  Where will drop off and pick up occur each day?

A:  The Athens Theatre, 124 N. Florida Avenue, DeLand unless otherwise advised by the instructor.

·         Q:  Will students be learning at age specific levels?

A:  Yes!  Each camp will have 4-6 instructors with age / grade appropriate groups.
