SUMMARY:Ragtime
DESCRIPTION:Young\, Beautiful\, Passionate\, And Scandalous–America In the Time of Ragtime. \nBook by Terrence McNally\, Music by Stephen Flaherty\, Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens\nBased on the novel\, Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow\n\nNominated for 13 Tony awards and winning the awards for Best Musical Score and Best Book of a Musical\, this blockbuster was adapted from E.L. Doctorow’ s great novel Ragtime (a selection in Modern Library’s list of “100 Best Novels”). \nStrikingly appropriate to our own difficult times\, Ragtime uses three disparate families to evoke the dangerously dynamic forces transforming America just before World War I. The play’s ragtime\, jazz\, gospel\, and ballad songs—30 of them in all—trace the once unimaginable sundering and merging of 3 families; one an upper-class\,  genteel\, and sheltered white family; the second\, a black family from Harlem who pursue a new kind of music and are pulled apart by fear and despair; and third\, an impoverished and nearly starving Jewish immigrant father and daughter striving to reach the American dream. The musical’s explorations of how clashing racial\, religious\, social\, and musical forces destroy some and transform others\, eventually producing a hopeful American future\, has moved and delighted a quarter century of audiences. Be sure to join them. This is a truly memorable show which cannot be missed. \nRun time: 2 hours & 45 minutes (plus a 15-minute intermission) \nPresented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI) \nSPECIAL ASL/ENGLISH INTERPRETED PERFORMANCE ON FRIDAY 4/29.\nTO PURCHASE TICKETS IN THE SECTION WITH THE BEST SIGHT LINES TO THE INTERPRETERS\, PLEASE CONTACT THE BOX OFFICE EITHER AT 386-736-1500 OR EMAIL US AT BOXOFFICE@ATHENSDELAND.COM

SUMMARY:IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR
DESCRIPTION:This show is a must-see for any Sinatra fan! A multimedia extravaganza for the eyes and ears! Tony Sands has incorporated stunning graphics that entice you the moment the stage lights dim\, and the music begins. \nThe show starts with Sinatra’s early days with Tommy Dorsey in the bright lights of New York City\, and brings us to his comeback at Madison Square Garden\, the “Main Event.” Tony’s uncanny portraying of Frank’s mannerisms and singing voice will take the audience on a musical journey. It’s as if Frank walked off of the screen and onto the stage. Sands will be performing such hits as That’s Life\, Come Fly With Me\, Luck Be A Lady\, My Way\, New York New York\, and many more. \nDon’t miss this one of a kind musical tribute to Frank Sinatra. \n____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ \nRESERVED SEATING \nPreferred Reserved Seating $35 (1st 6 Rows Center Orchestra & 2 Rows Center Balcony) \nGeneral Reserved Seating $30 \nA $3.00 per ticket processing charge is added to all purchases and we collect a 6.5% State and County Sales Tax \nDue to the fact that the Historic Athens Theatre does not have an elevator to the balcony. SUMMARY:Cinematic Symphony
DESCRIPTION:The St. Augustine Orchestra is proud to bring their Cinematic Symphony to the Athens Theatre.  This concert features multiple cinema classics such as the Theme from Schindler’s List\, Pirates of the Caribbean\, Hymn to the Fallen\, Forrest Gump Suite\, Colonel Bogey March\, and many others. \nThe St. Augustine Orchestra was founded in 1961 by Jack Van Brederode who served as conductor for several years.  Originally called the St. Augustine Symphonette\, the ensemble went through a number of name changes\, finally settling on the St. Augustine Orchestra (SAO).  In his sixth season with SAO\, our current conductor\, Maestro Scott Gregg continues to guide the group to new musical heights. \nAmong the most notable former members was violinist Hugo Ohlms\, whose murals and colorful decorations still grace the interior of the Basilica Cathedral in St. Augustine.  Emil Maestre\, internationally known cellist (the Emil Maestre Music Association was named in his honor) played with the ensemble whenever his busy performance schedule permitted.  For many years\, Orchestra member Jack Page took the position of business manager and was elected president of the Board of Directors and held both posts until his retirement from the orchestra in 2002.  Currently\, orchestra member Allyson Breger holds the position of Executive Director. \n_________________________________________________________________________________ \nRESERVE SEATING\nPreferred Reserved Seating $35\n1st. 6 rows Orchestra & 2 Rows Center Balcony \nGeneral Reserved Seating $30 \nA $3.00 per ticket Processing charge is added to all purchases and we collect a 6.5% State and County Sales Tax \nDue to the fact that the Historic Athens Theatre does not have an elevator to the balcony.
