SUMMARY:COMPLETELY UNCHAINED
DESCRIPTION:Who doesn’t love the way Van Halen rocked the world from 1978 to 1984? They had it all\, including the best guitarist on the planet. A lead singer with the biggest personality in our Solar System. A bass player who laid down the law on bass while singing pristine harmonies over the top. And a drummer who kicked everyone’s butt. They created some of the best tunes ever heard on the radio and they all smiled those big smiles while doing it. Every show was a huge party and it just felt good. \nCompletely Unchained features four talented and creative musicians that re-create the ultimate Van Halen production – the attitude\, sounds\, excitement\, energy\, and most of all the fun that Van Halen produced as one of the best rock bands in the world. Starting off by recreating the very best of the original line up\, then merging the “Van Hagar” era with some David Lee Roth solo hits\, completes a whole catalog of the greatest hard rock songs ever recorded. \nCompletely Unchained takes the concept of a tribute band and raises it to a whole new level. Not only do they recreate the music with unsurpassed skill\, but the stage energy and the production at a Completely Unchained show is unmatched\, so “Jump” “Right Now” to see their musical “Eruption” on the Athens’ stage.   \n____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ \nRESERVED SEATING \nPreferred Reserved Seating $35 (1st 5 Rows Center Orchestra & 2 Rows Center Balcony) \nGeneral Reserved Seating $30 \nA $3.00 per ticket processing charge is added to all purchases and we collect a 6.5% State and County Sales Tax \nBOX SEATS AVAILABLE \n5 SEATS PER BOX SEAT AREA $200\nPlease contact the Box Office at 386-736-1500 Wed. – Sat. 1:00 – 5:00

SUMMARY:Love Letters
DESCRIPTION:The Absent Friends are elated to put on this beautiful play as a fundraiser to help keep the Athens Theatre afloat during these tough times.  This touching comedy is a perfect way to celebrate an early Valentine’s Day while seated in the socially distant\, sanitized\, and ever-romantic historic theatre.  Audiences may recognize the two actors as members of the Athens Theatre staff who have been featured in numerous Athens productions over the last 10 years–Alan Ware (Athens Facility Manager seen in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged\, A Christmas Story the Musical\, Les Misérables\, and many more) and Alexa Baldwin (Athens Director of Operations and Marketing seen in 9 to 5 the Musical\, Les Misérables\, Little Shop of Horrors\, etc.) \nA.R. Gurney’s Love Letters is a tender\, tragi-comic\, and nuanced examination of the shared nostalgia\, missed opportunities\, and deep closeness of two lifelong\, complicated friends.  Over the course of their lives\, Andy and Melissa’s relationship goes through many changes\, as the sometimes-sweethearts/sometimes-friends go through periods of estrangement\, and the intense\, clandestine affair which will accelerate Melissa’s emotional breakdown. Despite the painful differences which will ultimately tear them apart\, they remain each other’s most trusted confidante\, and are “true lovers” on paper\, if not on the earth.  While spanning five decades and numerous locations\, it is staged simply\, letting their words describe a world of emotion. \nAll proceeds will be donated to the Athens Theatre. \nThis play has some language and topics that may not be suitable for children.

DESCRIPTION:Book by Stuart Ross with Lyrics and Music by Various Artists \n  \nHolidays Go Plaid at the Athens Theatre\nIn the historic Athens Theatre’s safely sanitized but cozy surroundings\, nestle your family into an intimate little group to take in this year’s festive holiday offering at the Athens: Stuart Ross’s musical silliness\, Plaid Tidings. \nInspired by the “heavenly” Rosemary Clooney\, familiar goofily comic characters from Forever Plaid return to earth and transform today’s dissonance and discord into mellifluous harmonies—sounds and songs appropriate to a season of brotherhood and joy. \nChortle and hum along to their version of an Ed Sullivan variety show featuring The Chipmunks\, The Vienna Boy’s Choir\, and The Rockettes—all of it “Plaid” style–as we are entertained by  amusingly altered favorites highlighted by “White Christmas\,” “The Carol of the Belles\,” “Twas the Nite B4\,”  “I’ll be Home for Christmas\,” and a hilarious calypso tune with “in excelsis da-a-ay-o” serving as a refrain. \nThis is a show for holiday theater goers of all ages. \n___________________________________________________ \nIMPORTANT: Tickets for ELF will be recognized as tickets for PLAID TIDINGS\nWe apologize for the change in our season schedule. Our previously scheduled production\, Elf the Musical \,is a large show with a cast of around 30\, while Plaid Tidings calls for a four-person cast. We at the Athens have made safety our paramount concern during the pandemic while also strive to bring quality theatre into our community. \nIf you DO NOT wish to attend Plaid Tidings\, and had purchased tickets to see Elf\, please send an email to our Director of Operations (found in the staff directory). \n
