SUMMARY:Rocky Horror Picture Show with Shadow Cast
DESCRIPTION:Don your leather jacket\, corset\, and fishnet tights—because DeLand Pride and the Absent Friends are bringing the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show back to the Athens Theatre after much “antici…pation.” \n\n\n\nWhether you are experiencing “Rocky” for the first or 100th time (as long as you are over the age of 18) we invite you to come and do “The Time Warp” again. \nThe evening will consist of a pre-show featuring several DeLand Pride drag performances (bring those $ bills for tips!) and the Absent Friends (with emcee Robert Baldwin) with their hysterical Rocky-virgin initiation fun\, the ever-popular 1975 20th Century Fox film\, live shadow cast (in other words\, costumed actors portraying the movie while it is being screened above)\, dancing\, and audience participation (with call backs and prop bags). \nThe film’s plot revolves around a newly engaged and admittedly naïve couple (Brad and Janet) who get stranded on the side of the road during a stormy night and seek refuge in the nearby castle of a strange (yet alluring) Dr. Frank-N-Furter. From there the story becomes increasingly more ridiculous\, raunchy\, and above all\, fun. \nTo make the show more accessible\, we have moved the “midnight showing” up to 8:00 p.m.\, opening with all the “normal” fun frivolity of welcomes\, initiating the “Rocky Virgins\,” and giving patrons a chance to purchase bags filled with audience participation props. \nThe audience is encouraged to come in costume\, sing along with the songs\, dance the dances\, and utilize their approved audience participation props. \nAny unapproved props will be confiscated at the door. \nFl state law requires us to state that this event is an 18 and over event only. Individuals under the age of 18 will not be admitted.  A Valid ID will be necessary for entry.  \n\nReserved Seating\nGeneral Seating (1st come\, 1st serve) $25 \nAudience Participation Prop Bags  $15.00 (Purchase these in advance and make sure to bring your receipt to the show!) \nA $5.00 per ticket processing charge is added to all purchases. \nDue to the fact that the Historic Athens Theatre does not have an elevator to the balcony. The balcony is not accessible to anyone with a wheelchair or walker. \nAll Patrons with special needs can contact the Box Office at 386-736-1500 for our wheelchair/walker accessible seating.

SUMMARY:Maximum Queen
DESCRIPTION:Experience the hyper-realistic sights and sounds of a Queen concert from the early 1980s\, filled with all the iconic hits\, incredible vocals\, captivating stories about Queen and their music\, costume changes\, and high-energy sing-alongs that will lift you right off your seat!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaximum Queen is a truly authentic tribute show that replicates Queen’s songs\, effects\, and music note-for-note\, live on stage. Lead singer and Welshman Martyn Jenkins\, who fronted the European touring Queen show Night at the Opera for years\, has performed for The Queen Fan Club and even for Queen’s own Brian May and Roger Taylor. \nThe band has spent countless hours in the studio\, and you’ll hear the exact multiple harmonies live that you hear on Queen’s original recordings\, all performed by Maximum Queen. Their attention to detail is unmatched\, and you must experience them performing Bohemian Rhapsody live to truly appreciate this masterpiece song as Queen envisioned it. \nWith the massive success of the Bohemian Rhapsody film reigniting Queen’s music for a new generation\, Maximum Queen will perform every song from the film\, along with many other fan favorites and deep cuts\, including Best Friend\, Keep Yourself Alive\, We Are the Champions\, Love of My Life\, Play the Game\, Another One Bites the Dust\, and more! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nReviews from past patrons include: \n\nI would definitely rate the show a 10 out of five. They were a very polished act and had five excellent musicians. The lead singer\, having to approximate to Freddie Mercury who was one of the greatest rock singers of all time\, honored Freddie very\, very well.— James L.\n“LOVED the show last week\, and I give it a 10 rating!!!! This was the second time we went to see them at the Athens Theatre\, and they were fantastic!!!!! We’ll be back to see them next year!!!” — Lynn P.\n“Nobody can replace Freddie Mercury\, but Martyn shows great respect for his legacy. He does very well vocally but makes no pretense of being able to match Freddie’s enormous talent.
