This is not a tribute show. This show is part of our original singer/songwriter series.
Sunny War, the Nashville-based singer-songwriter and guitar virtuoso, reveals her inner conflicts and musical innovations on her fourth album, Anarchist Gospel. Balancing self-destructive tendencies with a drive for stability, Sunny’s new work documents a period of intense emotional struggle.
Blending ecstatic gospel, dusty country blues, thoughtful folk, and rip-roaring rock and roll, Sunny’s songs convey a powerful statement of survival. Her unique style, honed since childhood influences like AC/DC and Bad Brains, showcases her ability to merge acoustic punk with country blues.
Anarchist Gospel emerged from a time of personal upheaval, including a breakup, isolation, and health challenges. Yet, Sunny channels these experiences into songs that oscillate between heartbreak and hard-won hope, collaborating with notable artists like Allison Russell and Jim James to create a choir-like resonance.
Sunny’s music, deeply rooted in her tumultuous past and raw emotions, promises resilience and perseverance. This album is a testament to her journey through darkness and light, embodying the essence of balancing the good and bad within us all.
